I remember my sister had this and I laughed because she kept losing... I felt like because it was Barbie it would be easy so she challenged me to it. After damaging my ego a bit I finally agreed and found it to be, in fact, rather difficult. I remember some sort of bath level and I kept losing there and I never did get by it. To be fair, it was more fun than I expected.
What a fantastic article. I had all the books when I was younger and used to love making maps as I went through each playthrough until i found the optimum path. I also had Hero Quest, a boardgame published by Games Workshop that came just before they focused on Warhammer. I had the expansion packs and everything. I couldn't believe it when I walked into a toy shop just last week with my child and saw it had been republished, including the expansions! But it was being sold for 120 euros!!! I think the expansions were 40 each. Madness. These really invoke nostalgia for all who were a part of this subculture, knowing that for one brief moment, in that space and time, it mattered to us.
There's a few games missing, most noticeably the unforgiving Kid Chameleon! Donald Duck's Quackshot, Greendog, DeCap Attack, loads of great games that should definitely be on here.
@mystman12 it's an amazing game. The sequels, Jungle Strike, Urban Strike etc. aren't as great but Desert Strike is one of the best games on the system!
@dkc_fan they said they tried to avoid games from the same series where possible... I agree that those are 2 amazing games, but I think Sonic 2 creeps ahead. I think they're better than some of the other games on this list though so they definitely should've been included, even if S&K is only an honourable mention!
I remember having the game genie when I was a young un. I also remember being disappointed that it didn't change the games as much as I thought it would. Maybe it was this that led me to view cheatcodes and walkthroughs a bit of a waste of time... until you complete it first at least. Oh well, one legacy gone and resigned to the ages.
I used to love GamesMaster! It was essential viewing for me when I was growing up! I have vague memories of it and even saw a clip of it once where a very young David Walliams would give out hints and tips to help you beat the game. Aah the days before the internet...
