Re: Feature: "What Naughty Dog Did Was Inexcusable" - Crash Bandicoot And Jak & Daxter Artist Charles Zembillas On Why Independence Is The Key

He's right. Sort of.

If you contribute to an IP in a significant manner, to the extent that the characters are different because of you, and you played a large role in shaping the identities of the characters, then you deserve both financial royalties and your name in the credits. This is especially true with character design: the way a character looks, in a very real sense, is one of the qualities that fans (and mainstream casuals, aka normies) associate with the charracters in the strongest of ways. It's why in decades past, actors got paid the most - and costume designers should have been paid a lot more than they were.

For example: Bill Finger and Bob Kane regarding Batman. Or look at Indiana Jones; if he didn't have the fedora, the whip, and the specific type of leather jacket he wears, he wouldn't be Indiana Jones.

All of this being said: creatives must take steps to ensure they own the IPs which they create. If they don't retain ownership, this kind of thing always happens. If I'm understanding the article correctly, this guy was basically brought onto certain projects as a hired gun. Of course he isn't going to get credit or royalties in that situation!

What he needs is to start his own gamedev company; or at least have a very important role in one, in the style of Frank Miller working with Robert Rodruigez in the Sin City movies. He could create a comic book (or indie animation), get copyright (and other rights) once it's published, and then shop around the new IP to dev studios, under the rule that the game would be a licensed one.

Not to be cruel about the situation, but he let the game studios own everything and now he's complaining about it. Creatives must know their worth, and stop giving away their creations.

Re: "Reject This Ugly Husk And Play The Original" - Panzer Dragoon II Zwei Remake Isn't Going Down Well With Fans

I love Panzer Dragoon Saga. It's one of my favorite JRPGs. It's one of the greatest games of all time. And you know what? I would love a remake.

Enough with the fetishization of "the low poly aesthetic" already; that stuff has been all over youtube by millenials with nostalgia glasses for a while now. Low poly graphics are awful, and an eyesore.

I don't need ultra realistic graphics, either. Just give me PDS with mihoyo style celshaded anime style graphics.
