A dedicated team of coders and translators has finally completed a 10-year-plus project to translate Atlus' RPG sequel Summon Night Swordcraft Story: Stone of Beginnings, originally released on the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, into English.

The third title in the epic, anime-infused adventure series, Stone of Beginnings was the only game in Banpresto's Summon Night Swordcraft Story sub-series not to receive a Western localisation - a fact that understandably frustrated the fans of this admittedly niche, but still loved franchise.

For the past decade-plus, a team of contributors has worked to translate all in-game text to English, from HUDs, menus, glossaries, and bestiaries to thousands of lines of dialogue and exposition. A contributor page celebrates a whole community of names who came together to translate, code, test, proofread, and bug-fix various iterations of the patch, leading to the launch of V1.06, the most complete translation to date.

The team admits that, despite spending hundreds of hours proofreading, there are still some overlooked errors in the mix, which can be noted on the developer's GitHub page. But what are a few mistakes when so much passion, effort, time and talent have been donated to afford fans an opportunity to play a sequel that has eluded them for decades?

The patch is available on the Summon Night Swordcraft Story Translation Team site, though users will have to provide their own copy of the game's original ROM.

The project has clearly been an endurance test for the team, but the "afterwords" page speaks of fun, friendships, and memories forged during the development of this patch - showing that while work such as this is long and arduous, it can lead to so much more, on a personal level, than the simple localisation of a forgotten game.

Great work, y'all. You should be very proud.
