Publisher Komi Games Inc. has announced that Infested DX, a remastered edition of developer GrahfMetal's itch.io game, is coming to Steam on October 27, boasting a visual overhaul and a gutful of new features.

Taking its cue from the DOS horror adventures of the late '80s and early '90s, as well as gooey sci-fi movies such as Alien and Galaxy of Terror, Infested sees the sole surviving astronaut of a failed space expedition exploring a deserted starship, picking their way through its corridors and rooms in hopes of finding a passage back to safety.

As is typically the case with these scenarios, our protagonist is not actually alone and must use their wits, brains, and brawn to avoid a gruesome death at the claws of numerous terrifying terrestrials, a wealth of environmental hazards, and other deadly obstacles.

Puzzle-solving, item-gathering, improvisation, and a lot of luck will be required to keep our hero from reaching an untimely, acid-splattered end.

Infested DX updates the original itch.io release from an aesthetic and gameplay perspective - overhauling the audio/visual design from 8-bit to 16-bit, and optimising its point-and-click control mechanics for gamepad support. The story and map have been expanded from the original release, and new options, including save states, have been implemented - handy for a game where death lurks around every airlock.

If you missed out on the original Infested a decade(!) ago, then Infested DX looks to be a perfect opportunity to get lost in space. A demo has been released as part of Steam Next Fest (which kicks off today), with the full game launching on Steam October 27, priced at $10/€9.
