A brand-new Game Boy Color game has launched on Kickstarter, Essencelord is a top-down, loot-driven adventure set in a world of sword, sorcery, magic, and monsters - and the work of single developer Tyler Lombard.

As an apprentice adventurer, having just graduated from "Marty Butterblatt's School of Sword & Sorcery", players will choose whether to forge ahead as a Warrior or a Wizard before exploring the kingdom of Oren - dungeon-crawling, loot-bagging, and monster-mashing while trying to stay two steps ahead of your nepotistic rival, Marty Butterblatt Jr.

Essencelord will feature three regions, a fistful of boss fights, and a hearty selection of characters with their own respective side-quests. Custom heroes will have the chance to evolve their gear and abilities, and longevity is promised via two very distinct classes and some additional endgame content for those who have proven themselves the greatest swordsman/sage in Oren.

Lombard is looking to raise $4500 and, as of this writing, has already raised $1650, so the project is off to a solid start. There are still multiple pledge goals available, including physical editions, custom colour cartridges, strategy guides, and even in-game appearances. So if you long for the halcyon days of battery-driven questing, be sure to take a look at Lombard's project.

Essencelord is crowdfunding now on Kickstarter. A demo is also available on Lombard's itch.io.
