Here's something for Amiga fans: a new futuristic racing game has just been announced for the classic '80s hardware.

The Amiga has obviously been home to many great racing titles over the years, including Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, Stunt Car Racer, and Super Hang-On, and Raster Software's Hyper Runner is clearly hoping to build on that tradition with this new release, bringing an F-Zero-style futuristic racing experience to the Commodore's beloved family of computers.

Pitched as "a classic time-based racing game," Hyper Runner gives players the choice of five distinct vehicles and 12 unique pilots, with these decisions modifying their "maximum speed, acceleration, manoeuvrability and durability."

The goal of the game is to race across five stages, with multiple pathways available at the end of each stage, similar to OutRun, leading to a possible 16 "route combinations" in total.

While racing, players will have to keep an eye on the time, other racers, and obstacles on the course like rocks, and can also pick up various arcade-style power-ups scattered across the road, from repair kits to items that will feed your boost function or give you more time.

It all looks really promising from the footage shown so far, and it's apparently even getting a pair of physical releases.

This includes a big-box physical edition currently available on the Darkagesoftware storefront for €49,99, and a CD edition (which is planned to go on sale on September 6th).

A digital edition is also scheduled to release later this year (on October 6th, 2026).

According to the Darkagesoftware website, the game will be playable on AGA Amiga, CD32, FPGA, and emulators, and will be compatible with either joysticks or a CD32 gamepad.
