Re: Hardware Review: SNK Neo Geo Mini International Edition - Different Design, Different Games, Same Problems?

No I think Nintendo did an amazing job on the minis. Also the LCD screen is the best part about the Neo Geo mini in that it actually looks good to play. Also the Pandoras boxes can play most of what the neo geo mini offers just fine, the neo geo mini is running a chipset thats found on $20 android tablets. I think you missed my entire point though I'm not comparing the actual products to eachother it was more of a response to you saying the neo geo mini has games over the ps4 for that price point. Also the Neo Geo games on switch can't be compared since they needed to be ported which a lot of that price comes from and is a much superior way to play these games than on the Neo Geo mini. Like I said the Neo Geo mini is fine as a novelty product or for casual gamers but they let down the SNK community as a whole and I don't think the price point is worth it. I still bought the int and jp versions but SNK could've done a lot better job.

I seriously don't see how this review defends SNK's choice for no micro switches in the controllers. Micro switches today are much better than they we're in the 90's, this choice was made out of pure greed base on their response "clicky thumbsticks cost too much". The emulation is pretty good but the filter they put on the video out still boggles my mind and the no scan line option is also weird. This console with 2 controllers and an HDMI mini cable almost costs $200 which is what a PS4 cost! The only thing SNK hasn't changed are their ways for charging way too much money.

@ShadJV
Yea basically but thats true of most retro hardware but we have seen data east(i think) put out retro carts recently but it's very rare, mostly the only developers you'll support for retro consoles are homebrew ones for like a pier solar. I'm pretty sure the mega drive is actually still popular in brazil and tec toy even ported street fighter 1 and a bunch of other games for the mega drive but theres no english afaik.
@Hikaru
Yes one great thing about this is that you can upgrade the firmware so I'm sure they'll patch anything that slips through the cracks.

Re: Exclusive: Polymega Creator Playmaji On FPGA, Sega Saturn And Dealing With 'Healthy' Scepticism

tguk911

Here's the problem they promised one thing that many thought couldn't be done and then proved those people right by scrapping the FPGA and aren't going to make it unless they reach a goal(plus it's only for the famicom) which is funny because they said they didn't need to do crowdfunding and at the time made it seem like a positive but now I feel like the only reason they didn't go kickstarter is because they wouldn't have been able to come up with a prototype.

Also the whole programming languages and chip specs sounds like smooth talk. Even though the saturn was complex for it's time being a 2d console powerful enough to render 3d, one big reason the saturn emulation is so bad is because it just wasn't a popular console being a commercial failure and doesn't get the support in the emulation community that other consoles do. So when they just announce they're adding Sega Saturn support and have a great in house emulator it raises red flags especially when the first footage they provide us with is arcade footage.

Re: Polymega Answers Critics With 25 Minutes Of Sega Saturn Gameplay Footage

@lillith
I agree this screams scam, show some actual footage of the hardware or of a saturn disc being loaded into the system, it's way to easy to manipulate this sort of stuff and given their arcade footage folly this should really be taken with a grain of salt. The whole idea of saturn emulation being added last minute is kind of fishy to me and seems like it's something they added to make up for the people that jumped off board after they announced no fpga.

Re: Polymega's Grand Vision For The Ultimate Retro System Includes A Virtual Console Successor

tguk911

Glad they went x86 instead of ARM which is fine for retro emulators but I think is smarter for the disc based stuff which runs more complex stuff.
I probably won't preorder this though until I see the consensus on forums since emulation can be so hit and miss. If this thing can run the Saturn well then I'll probably get it, hoping its emulation is more like SSF than Yabause.

Re: Hardware Review: Does The SNK Neo Geo Mini Outclass Nintendo's Classic Editions?

tguk911

Can't wait to get mine unfortunately the delivery date got pushed back to mid august (had to buy at nin-nin games since amazon japan didn't allow delivery to the states). The pads seem impossible to find, nin-nin games had them for $46 each which is crazy so I'm hoping these become easier to find in the future especially with the international release or we get third party controllers hell I'll even take chinese knock offs.Also I don't mind the internal battery that much because it's so awkward looking that I don't think I would lug this around playing on the train or a car plus it would have driven up the cost even more so I'll just stick with my switch to get my snk fix on the go.
