Re: 3DO's New Owner "Working Carefully Through Complexities" To Return To The Hardware Arena

I had a 3do, I paid a lot of money for a goldstar model in 1995 because I was never good with money or common sense. However, it was awesome! Road Rash, Space Hulk, Need for Speed, Killing Time, Gex and so much more, all ported to PlayStation later on but still I played them months earlier! I do have nostalgia for this machine, but I also have all the 3do games I want to play on my steamdeck and no desire to buy hardware. An Atari ST mini on the other hand…

All the criticism may be fair, but I am still having fun playing through this. Yes there is some jank but it does look nice on the steamdeck screen and I find the controls are smooth. I do love the original arcade game and let’s be honest - we can play that any time we want. I appreciate what the developers have done and as a New Zealander I love this bonkers game getting any attention.

I was late to the Atari ST scene, I think I got my first 520STFM in 1991 from my paper run money. We only had a 5" black and white portable TV spare so that was my "monitor" until my parents felt sorry for me and bought me a 14" colour tv for my room. I would get games from a friend at school, and also a family friend let me make some copies from his huge collection. The menu disks are burnt into my memory with the images and music. I played Captive so much, and Rick Dangerous 2, Damocles, midwinter... so many incredible games for the time. I have installed Hatari on my steam deck set up in gaming mode, I have an archive of the scene menu releases and am so happy randomly picking one and getting that nostalgia rush when I strike one I used to have. I would buy any Atari ST related rerelease in a heartbeat, there has to be dozens of us Atari ST fans still alive!
