Capcom's veteran superstar/superguy Mega Man is back (in a fashion), courtesy of a brand-new unofficial fan game now available on the PICO-8 platform.

Kiloman, developed by homebrewer Trianull, sees The Blue Bomber return for a mini adventure on the byte-sized game creation platform. Four challenging stages await, capped off with an encounter with the nefarious Dr. Wily. Kiloman authentically replicates Mega Man's formative NES adventures, with challenging, screen-to-screen platforming action culminating in a one-on-one scrap with one of four Robot Masters.

Trianull notes that they have worked hard to recreate the weight, speed, and mechanics of the Mega Man NES titles. They've done a solid job, as within just a few seconds of play, the tangible, recognisable "feel" of Mega Man's frequently hair-tearing 8-bit adventures is apparent. Of course, E-tanks and power-ups are on deck, and the familiar Robot Master intros set the scene immediately, with music composed by Trianull themselves.

So, if you're currently twiddling your thumbs awaiting the arrival of the official Capcom release Mega Man: Dual Override, Trianull's new, pocket-sized escapade will help momentarily scratch that itch. Kiloman is playable in-browser via Trianull's PICO page. Controlled via keyboard, it seems at least one player has had a little trouble rewiring their Mega Man muscle memory from gamepad left/right controls to keyboard right/left controls.

As if Mega Man needed any excuse to be any harder.

Mega Man: Dual Override launches Spring 2027 on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
