Team17 has lifted the lid on a retro-infused roguelike which will offer up both highly challenging platformer gameplay and bucketfuls of (surprisingly unnerving) gore. Little Prince Tyger, currently in development at French studio Saltitude Games, is expected to launch on PC in 2027.

Inspired by William Blake's 1794 poem "The Tyger", Little Prince Tyger tells the grim tale of a royal hunter - tasked by the Queen to locate her lost son, Prince Galaad - picking their way through a frightening dark fantasy environment, populated by nightmarish creatures and even scarier memories.

Armed with a precision hunting bow, our hero must overcome insurmountable enemies and hazards if they are to find the young prince and return to the kingdom a hero... If they are to return at all.

A precision platformer with scalpel-sharp combat and movement, Little Pince Tyger will feature 1,000 "hand-designed" stages, along with numerous boss battles, adjustable stats, and an arsenal of alternate weapons, including boomerangs, javelins, and throwing knives.

Death itself is part of the process, as the hero returns to the front line again and again, a little stronger and wiser for wear. A creepy, skin-crawling aesthetic defines the world, with itch-inducing creatures and environments, and a wanton taste for blood and gore, despite the retro-infused aesthetic.

From its debut trailer, Little Prince Tyger already looks to be a difficult, compelling, and satisfying adventure - reminiscent of precision platformers such as Super Meat Boy and Celeste, but with a gloomy, gory atmosphere recalling horror artists such as Junji Ito and Shintaro Kago. There are a lot of eye sockets, is what I'm saying. Worth putting on the radar for anyone who can stomach its visceral violence or, more pointedly, its visceral challenge.

Little Prince Tyger is currently in development for PC. It is expected to launch in 2027.
