I'm in the mood for a bit of a challenge!

My plan for October is to play an SNK (Neo Geo) fighter every day for 30-45 minutes to see if I actually get any better at it by the end of the month...

...but I need your recommendations on which one to choose! I've never really played any of them much so I'd be coming at all of them pretty much new. I've left plenty of time before the start, so if you'd like to recommend a game please do. The game with the most recommendations is the one I'll pick. In case of a draw I'll pick one at random.

If I can figure out how I may upload day 1 and day 31 as a record of progress (or otherwise) to YouTube or somewhere.

@Martin_H That sounds like a fun plan. Back in the day, I eventually gravitated toward SNK's fighters once I discovered them. I would recommend King of Fighters '98. That one is fantastic. King of Fighters '97 is also very good. They're similar. '97 is the last part of a story arc, as much as that matters in a fighting game, while '98 is a "dream match" scenario which brought back some early characters. They have different bosses, backgrounds, presentation, etc, so some people might prefer '97, but '98 is where to start, I think.

In addition to that, The Last Blade (Bakumatsu Rouman: Gekka no Kenshi) is another good pair of games if you're in the mood for a weapon's based fighter. They have great production values. I've played the first one a bit more, and the bosses are more manageable despite first impressions. The second game is a bit more refined in gameplay and has some changes. It's also excellent. The final boss is insane, but that's just how things are in the land of SNK. I tend to play The Last Blade 2 with the difficulty turned down a notch or two from default. I recommend them both equally. Both have beautiful presentation with especially lovely backgrounds.

And I expect you'll probably get some recommendations for Garou: Mark of the Wolves which is also excellent and popular. I haven't played that one as much as the others, though.

@sdelfin Excellent, thanks for that - KoF '98 on the list! I've never played a team based fighter before, so that could be an extra challenge!
