The only one I ever saw (sort of) in the wild was one we had in one of our shops. It gathered dust for many a year, in fact it was still there gathering dust when I sold my share of the business years later. I actually can’t even remember how we came to have it, it’s definitely not something I would have put an order in for, so I’m going to blame my partner. Quite a few people asked about it over the years, there was many a discussion in the shop at lunchtime when the school kids came in (I wasn’t much older than them) but alas, not a single person ever liked the concept enough to actually buy the thing.
Never had one, honestly didn’t appeal to me in the least back in the day, which considering my gaming and tech obsession says a lot. My CDTV still sits proudly on my shelves, next to the many, many other systems I’ve accumulated in the past 5 decades. Many of which were definitely commercial failures, but I love them all for one reason or another.
You are too kind but really, you shouldn’t encourage me to go off on a tangent, let’s just say we should be thankful there’s a limit to how much one can type in these posts, ha.
Having said that, I used to write for a website and it was my informal, friendly style of writing that made the site owner get in touch with me in the first place, so maybe there’s something to it after all.
I do actually miss writing, especially now that I’m starting to get a bit of free time here and there where I could actually get to it again.
I’ve actually been penning an article for a while now, based on my eight months living in hospital after my son was born 4 months prematurely. It was a heartbreaking experience, with a thankfully and extremely unexpectedly happy ending.
It’s something of an antithesis of the bad press that gaming often comes under fire from, we don’t always hear the other side of the coin when gaming is responsible for saving your mental state and getting you through the worst experiences of your life.
I totally agree, LRG are obviously the biggest in that particular market segment and as such they also get a significant amount of exclusive releases.
I’ve used LGR for quite a few releases, but they are definitely starting to rub me up the wrong way with some of the underhanded moves they’ve been making.
I hold out hope that they will right the ship and avoid such practices in the future, just as I hope people will vote with their wallets (however difficult it may be to pass on some releases) and show them that they need to treat their customers with the respect they deserve.
I know all too well just how important it is to treat your customers well. When I was a teenager I joined a failing games store and turned it around within just 7 weeks, ultimately I became a half partner in the store and continued to improve it, always with the mantra that the customer is king and within 2 years we had several stores. You cannot treat your customers badly and keep expecting them to come back. But I digress, so unlike me 🤣
I did purchase Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX Signature Edition from Just for games, and I have no complaints with their service. What I would really like is for more competition in the market, someone to really take on LGR at the same level. Direct competition is always a good thing, ultimately a very good thing for we, the end users. I’ve considered getting back into the market, but damn it would take so much time and effort, normally not a problem but trust me, don’t have kids when you’re 50, get it over with when you’re younger 😂 Albeit my wee man’s a bit of a different situation, he was extremely premature and it’s a medical miracle he’s still here, so I am most certainly not complaining. But I digress, again, twice in one post? Clearly I’ve had too much morphine today 🤣🤣

There are lots of them around if you search, but really it depends heavily upon the games you want, some just aren’t available elsewhere for now.
Nonetheless, here’s just a couple of the many other retailers;

https://1printgames.com
https://superraregames.com
