Re: After 9 Years Of Work, GoldenEye 007 N64 Is Now 100% Decompiled

@Bot_Bot_69 It's a pick your poison thing. I don't like it and would much rather have a human made port - which is coming, the recomp is progressing nicely - but if right now you have to choose between:

  • A guy that knows the game enough and has the community backup to get all the fixes and features the players would expect.
  • A random person that never played the game looking to be the first to get clout and then abandon the project.

I think the choice is clear. This is not me promoting AI, defending it, or anything but rather accepting that it is impossible to expect for everyone else to wait until the work is done properly before they're tempted to release the first thing their ChatGPT prompt gave them. With a game as big as GoldenEye it's just doomed to happen.

It's not about being the first to plant the flag but making sure that it's one managed by the people in the community, which will get support until someone steps up, and ensure it's not just a raw minimum effort release. I've already tried it and it's far from comparable to the AI slop ports we've gotten of GoldenEye in the previous months before decomp was complete.

Re: Something Just Happened In GoldenEye 007 That Has Never Been Seen Before

@smoreon @RootsGenoa It's not a problem! The incredible thing is that for this to happen on a scenario as seen in the clip, both players must be on match point and shoot at the exact same frame. This is is extremely rare and it's the first recorded footage of it happening in an actual match.

This does not apply to Slappers Only or Explosives as the timing is much wider for those.

As for why this wasn't tested before... It was, I'm certain this has been done with a TAS or similar in the past - the wording on my tweet isn't great out of context because I did not expect it to be covered by news sites. The myth is more-so of it happening in a normal match during Netplay where the players are highly skilled on Pistols LTK. This is the first time of it happening in over 15 years of Netplay games, but we still had rules set in place in case of a tie happening during a tournament match.
