The Tokyo Game Show gave us the very welcome news that Toaplan's Zero Wing is being ported to the Neo Geo, and this has clearly inspired some people to consider other potential conversation candidates.
One of these is Earthion, a game made with the Mega Drive hardware in mind that launched on modern systems in 2025. Created by Yuzo Koshiro's Ancient studio, this 2D shooter would be the perfect option for a Neo Geo port; after all, it's already available on the exA-Arcadia platform in an enhanced format.
It seems that Koshiro himself is very much open to the idea, too.
"There will be some who might grumble at how old-school Earthion is when compared to modern shmups, but those complaints miss the point," is what I said in my 9/10 review of the Steam version of the game.
"Koshiro and collaborator Makoto Wada sought to create the best possible shooter for the Genesis / Mega Drive, bound by the technical constraints of hardware that is now over 30 years old. They have achieved that goal in spectacular fashion, making this a must-have for fans of the genre and those who appreciate retro gaming in general."
The Mega Drive version of the game is hopefully coming soon.
