Like any billion-dollar industry, the world of video games has seen more than its fair share of litigation over the decades, and Daniel Ibbertson (creator of the YouTube channel Slope's Game Room) has put together a new book which uncovers the most fascinating examples.
Ibbertson knows his stuff in this area, as one of his most popular video series – Kick-Scammers – often focuses on the legal ramifications when crowdfunding goes wrong.
"Video Games vs The World is a coffee-table book that explores the craziest courtroom battles the gaming industry has ever seen," reads the Kickstarter landing page. "The plan is to take the nostalgic, highly edited style of the Slope's Game Room YouTube channel and squeeze it into a detailed physical book. Think of it as a cross between a classic 90s gaming magazine and a police scrapbook."
The tome will include "at least" 50 stories, "spanning early American arcade battles, European home computer rivalries, classic console contentions, and rarely discussed Japanese legal disputes."
For his research, Ibbertson has dug into original court documents and vintage news snippets, and has even obtained exclusive quotes from the people actually involved.
