Like any successful toy line, Transformers has seen its fair share of video game adaptations — earliest of which can be traced all the way back to the Famicom, the Japanese version of the NES.
However, this latest Transformers gaming crossover has "weird" written all over it. Manufactured by Takara Tomy Arts as part of its new NEXTA range of toys and models, Mega Drive Megatron is a new version of the despicable Decepticon leader who transforms into Sega's most successful home console (better known in North American as the Genesis). It's expected to launch in Japan this summer.
This has got to be one of the most strange — yet downright amazing — collaborations we've seen in years, and as massive fans of both Transformers and the Mega Drive, we'd love to have this standing on our desk here in the Nintendo Life office. What about you?

That is awesome! He needs a Super NES Optimus Prime counterpart, though.
Pretty cool. Japan gets awesome collectibles!
Absolute MUST BUY!
I don't think its 'that' crazier a concept actually, as the folks that will remember Megatron in this style are also the folks likely to remember the MD and when you mix those two up, present them with a geeky tribute and ask them if they want one...just watch the wallets open around the world. I hope it comes in some sexy MD inspired packaging too, that would be incredible!!!!!!!
Oh man...now I can't stop thinking about an N64 which transforms into Optimus Primal!
They should've done this in the 80's and 90's. Sega would have ruled the planet even more haha.
What's the price? I would love to have one of these, a snes version would be great!
be cooler if it worked.
I would say why the Mega Drive but well it's obvious. Also if any system from that era looked like a transformer that one would be it as none of the Nintendo systems even come close!
@3MonthBeef or Baseball caps…
What is the… wait, is that an Ultra Magnus or Optimus Prime on the other side?
Whoever he is, what does he change into? From here it looks like… a snowmobile and a classroom play set…?
AWESOME! I need it.
@ChessboardMan That's a robot from the shooter Skull Fang, not a transformer - sadly!
I posted about this yesterday.
