A brand-new '80s-style shmup is headed to the Atari Jaguar. Star Streak is a 360-degree arcade blaster developed by Songbird Productions, the studio behind previous Jaguar games Old Towers and Wings of Death, as well as upcoming releases Shape Shooter 2000 and Zool Collection.

As you can see from the trailer below, Star Streak puts players in the pilot seat of a plucky singular space vessel as it attempts to survive an onslaught of space rockery - or "Asteroids", if you will - in rotary shooter action. Much like its clear inspiration, Star Streak's ship can jet off in any number of directions, with gravity and momentum playing a part in the ship's overall speed, acceleration, and inertia.

The gameplay hook comes in the "streak" of the game's title, with players awarded higher scores and bonus multipliers for the rapid destruction of asteroids, alien ships, and other enemies that come sailing into view. Star Streak also features a variety of boss battles, along with a Time Attack mode - tasking players to rack up big numbers within a three-minute window.

Originally released during JagFest 2024 with a limited run of 100 cartridges, Songbird Productions is preparing a new batch of Star Streak carts for public sale. While details on price and timing are currently slim, Star Streak is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027. So if you're looking to pick up a spanking new game for your Big Cat Console, keep your eyes fixed on the Songbird Productions website.

Star Streak is coming to Atari Jaguar in 2027.
