Update []:

It's been a ridiculously long time since we last covered Forest of Illusion, developer Domkid's fan-made mashup of the Mega Drive platformers Castle of Illusion, Mickey Mania, World of Illusion, and Fantasia for the Commodore Amiga.

But recently, the developer has taken to Twitter/X to share a new update on the project — one with a surprising twist: this is that the game has seemingly ditched the Amiga as its platform of choice, in favour of the Neo Geo.

In an email to Time Extension, DomKid confirmed this was the case, and shared with us that the plan was to finish the game potentially by the end of the year. Improved graphics for the game's levels come courtesy of Ansimuz, with the developer stating they are planning to use characters, enemies, and music from the four games mentioned above.

Here are the first images of the Neo Geo game:

Original Story []: DomKid, the developer behind Castlevania fan game Maria Renard's Revenge, is working on a title for the Commodore Amiga which is inspired by some of Mickey Mouse's most iconic video game adventures (thanks, Indie Retro News).

Forest Of Illusion is currently in beta and is being built using the powerful Scorpion Engine. It is described as an entirely new outing inspired by Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion and Mickey Mania – three of the iconic mascot's most celebrated '90s games.

While the game is certainly very early in development, it's already looking promising.
