Sonic the Hedgehog may have celebrated its 35th anniversary earlier this year, but it appears the festivities aren't over yet. That's because next month, a new 35th anniversary exhibition is kicking off at Ikebukuro PARCO in Tokyo, Japan, to take a look back at the series' history through a variety of exhibits (h/t: TokyoGameLife).

The event, which is called SONIC the Exhibition -ACROSS GENERATIONS-, is being organised as a collaboration between Ikebukuro PARCO, R11R Inc., kanon Inc., and the Sega Corporation, and is said to feature gaming titles across the series, in addition to rare development materials, a special exhibition containing artwork from 16 contemporary artists with "a deep affection" for the iconic blue hedgehog (and his cast of friends), and exclusive merch.

Some of the materials teased for the event include scripts and setting materials for various Sonic games — some of which have reportedly never been seen before — with the goal of displaying these historically important documents being to showcase the dedication put into each title.

On its website, PARCO ART released a list of the 16 participating artists set to be featured in the event. These include: Yusuke Nakamura, Taku Inoue, TSCR, HUKANZEN, Yuuki Kikuchi, STUDY (優作), Aoi Neon, Panasony™, Ryosuke Takeuchi, BRIDGE SHIP HOUSE, SIO (The TOMODACHI!), Tomowaka, move nao, Hakuikishiroi, Yuuki Imada, nirohsy.

As for official merch, there will be badges, T-shirts, files, and keychains, some of which will feature the artwork specifically produced for the event.

The event is scheduled to take place from Friday, October 9th, 2026, to Sunday, November 1st, 2026, in the PARCO FACTORY on the 7th floor of Ikebukuro PARCO, and will cost 1,500 yen for general admission (young children and caregivers can go free). Tickets for the first three days will be sold via a lottery.

Understandably, we're quite jealous of anyone able to make it to the event, and hope that someone is on hand to take some photos of some of the development materials and artwork that are set to go on display
