Evercade Range Expands With Two New Carts And A Banjo-Kazooie-Packing Super Pocket

Rubbish the Rare handheld should have had more 64-bit games unless they are saving that for a separate cartridge. Must have some power though to be able to emulate the N64.

Those handheld buttons hardly seem suited for N64 games.

Wonder if you can choose which Conker's Pocket Tales to play, or if it's stuck on GBC mode only.

I'm going to assume that they'll be putting Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (GBA) on there, because the N64 original definitely requires the analog control stick to play it properly.

That Activision 2 Collection will be mine - I loved Pitfall II back on the Atari VCS. It was my fave platformer until SMB came out! It’ll be a nostalgia trip to revisit again after so many years.

I simply can't believe this little thing has a CPU with enough power to run N64 emulation.

@RupeeClock Hrm. Don't know how I feel about playing Banjo-Kazooie with a D-pad, let alone how the control scheme/camera control would work without the right stick/C-buttons.

...Mega Cat is a LOT more prolific than I thought they were, and I'm not entirely sure they count as indie because of that.

Also, someone tell me how wrong I am on this but isn't H.E.R.O. on of, if not THE most expensive 2600 cartridges cause it somehow never got re-released on any of the comps before?

That's the best collection yet! The lack of longevity on many of the titles often puts me off. I wish they'd do a Pocket with Sega and put Phantasy Star, Thor and Soleil on there.

Love the Super Pocket, but that is a very small screen for Banjo! I have the Taito one, and it's kind of great, but the screen is just too small for a lot of the games.

@Zeebor15 There are more expensive Atari 2600 carts, but it's one of the most advanced and best gameplay games on the OG VCS, the price makes sense.

Also, H.E.R.O. has been re-released in the past, but not since 2012 as an Easter Egg in Black Ops 2.

I have the Neo Geo super pocket and the 3 Neo Geo Carts but it’s too small for me. I would go for the proper Evercade I could get the same roms as the pocket on it. I guess there will be an update with Analog Sticks based on the new pad. I don’t want to get one bundled with games I don’t want though. If the Capcom one was still available I would probably go for that.

Looks gaudy. And why would you wanna play Banjo-Kazooie with a D-pad? Evercade's continued existence/relevance keeps baffling me.

That Super Pocket is hideous, gotta be the worst looking one yet. These could be so cool if styled differently, well, just in a good way. The carts are again just more mid tier, easy to obtain cheap licenses. I love everything that this eco system stands for, but the execution is lacklustre at best. I felt like the Neo Geo Pockets would usher a new direction of quality, but then we get this monstrosity. It looks like a Fisher price unit.

Everyone's already said it but there's no way I can walk away from this: Banjo-Kazooie with only 4 face buttons and no analogue stick is a miserable joke. Reminds me of the very early days of N64 emulation on PC when you'd just use whatever you had at hand (usually some kind of Gravis SNES knockoff pad) and be amazed that it ran at all. People will buy these things for Banjo, but nobody's going to be playing it with a smile on their face.

I think it's silly-sounding to refer to Banjo-Kazooie as a "64-bit console" game but I know they legally have to do it that way.

@N64-ROX Assuming the digital pad wasn't used, then technically the device has enough buttons (including the four on the back) but I imagine that yes, it will only be fun to those who enjoy playing their games with the worst available control methods (the "Castlevania on a dance pad" crowd).

Wild to see people excited about the Activision carts but ah well, if that's what you like. I'd like some more crusty microcomputer carts please.

@YANDMAN Not available anywhere in the UK from a proper distributor new. (I want the exp with built in Capcom). I might get something else but definitely not Tomb Raider.

Man, I wish I had the funds to pick up the "Rare Super Pocket," if only to have an official way to play Banjo-Kazooie on a handheld device that I can actually take with me on-the-go ("Nintendo Switch Online N64 Classics" notwithstanding, though I can't exactly fit a Switch into my pockets...).

Honestly, I've been having trouble justifying purchases like this. I'm trying to cut back on things I "want" and focus only on the things I "need," and since this isn't something I actually require, I can't seem to bring myself to buy it no matter how badly I want it...

Though it WOULD have been nice if they included Banjo-Tooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day (among others, wherever possible) to sweeten the deal. Maybe in a "Rare" cartridge collection someday, perhaps? Though I don't know if the device would even have enough buttons to account for all the controls, at least probably not without making a few compromises, anyways...

For those wondering, Blaze has heavily hinted that there will be a cart with more Rare games this year, and other Super Pocket editions have seen their games re-released on carts before, no worries.

As for Banjo-Kazooie working on this thing, they said it's a native port, that's why. And they also announced an analog controller due in September, so we're definitely seeing the game out of the Super Pocket before the end of the year.

Mega Cat 3 has been a letdown for me, I was hoping they would include bigger games in it, owning the likes of ZDF and Project Blue. I don't think I'm gonna buy this one. Activision 2 I will, after all both Activision carts have games that aren't on the Atari 50 Collection and aren't expected to be in it as a DLC either.

Maybe thats why Evercade are now releasing a analog controller

Lack of Banjo-Tooie on the Rare Super Pocket should be a crime. Yes I am the #1 Banjo-Tooie fan, and I was about to gloss over how they used Banjo-Tooie renders on the first picture. Banjo-Tooie Banjo-Tooie Banjo-Tooie.

If I want to play devil's advocate for a second, I'd guess it would be emulation issues, since that game is pretty complex and historically was a challenge to emulate.

I wonder what are the changes to the Banjo-Kazooie enhanced port, however. It seems they changed the Game Boy that Banjo holds on Save File 3 to an Evercade.

They could have added Grunty's Revenge in there too, so you would have all three "Nintendo" Banjos, even though the GBA was released by THQ at the last minute.

@h3s Ah O.k. so what you want is the 'Founders' edition, or the original run of white systems. When you say 'The Capcom' one, in a post about Super pocket's, I assume you're talking about the Capcom Super Pocket.
