Sonic 3

The '90s were, by and large, pretty awesome. We had some incredible movies, great TV shows and (mostly) excellent music – and then, of course, there were the fantastic video games from the likes of Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, EA, Konami and many, many more.

However, the '90s also gave us some less welcome combinations of some of the above, including a collaboration between Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog and Right Said Fred, a somewhat novelty pop act comprised of siblings Fred and Richard Fairbrass, most famous for the global number one hit "I'm Too Sexy" – a song which gave the pair the distinction of being the first UK band to reach number one in the US with a debut single since The Beatles.

While Right Said Fred have arguably failed to retain the brief fame afforded to them during the early '90s, the pair had sufficient cachet at the time to catch the attention of Sega of Europe, which commissioned a unique adaptation of the album track "Wonderman" (taken from the 1993 album, Sex and Travel) infused with references to Sonic, with the aim being to promote the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

A special video was created for the single, which featured Steven O'Donnell, the face of Sega's Pirate TV campaign and star of Bottom, Spice World and (more recently) 2011's Conan the Barbarian reboot.

All of this effort was largely for nothing, as the single peaked at 55 in the UK singles chart and many people have largely forgotten about it. Still, if you're one of those fans to whom this rings a bell, you might like to refresh your memory with the full song, which we've kindly included below.
