Earlier this year, Konami announced a sequel to Super Bomberman R, called Super Bomberman R 2, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam). Now it seems that was just the beginning of its plans for the series, however, with the developer and publisher also unveiling another title, Amazing Bomberman, exclusively for Apple Arcade subscribers. Better yet, it's playable from today!

For the most part, Amazing Bomberman plays similar to other Bomberman titles you've probably experienced in the past. You are stuffed into a maze of blocks with enemy players or AI and must then compete to blow each other up and grab upgrades on the map. This time around, though, the game puts a much larger emphasis on its music, with the blocks and items falling in time to the beat.

Playing in single-player mode, online, or with friends, you can choose from a selection of tracks featuring titles like Bubble Addiction, Bomb Bomb Blow em all, and Dance With me, with each song having its own BPM.

You will also be able to unlock customization options through playing, such as badges, frames, poses, and facial expressions. The options, however, seem a bit slight at the moment.

Altogether, this might not seem like much of a shake-up for the classic series, but it's a fun, little package with some fantastic music, familiar gameplay, and adorable artwork. We even spotted some amazing retro references in the main menu, such as a statue of Impact from the Ganbare Goemon series! So top marks for that obviously.

If you want to play the game, you will need to subscribe to Apple Arcade. Subscribing to Apple Arcade costs £4.99, with a one-month free trial, so it's well worth giving it a go! You can watch a trailer if you're on the fence:
