There's been a lot of quality platformers lately that callback to a bygone era. But none have won us over quite as quickly as Frogun — an upcoming PS1-style game about a young explorer, who can shoot an amphibious 'Frogun' to grapple onto enemies, ledges, and other objects.

What's so special about it, you may want to ask? Well, besides the unwritten rule that all games are infinitely better with the addition of a grappling mechanic, we absolutely adore its pixellated art style that calls to mind classic PlayStation games like Japan Studio's Ape Escape. It's a type of game we simply can't get enough of, with the promise of collectables, fun movement mechanics, and plenty of themed areas to explore.

For a while now, we've been following the progress of Frogun over on the developer's Twitter, soaking up any information we could, and we're happy to share that it now seems to have an official release date set for August 2, 2022. That's when the game will finally launch across PC (Steam, Epic Games, GOG), Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 4|5.

We can't wait to get our hands on it, at last! And see whether the game lives up to the hype.
