Atlus's Power Instinct (Gōketsuji Ichizoku in Japan) may not be the most well-known fighting game series in the world, but it still has many fans who have been expecting some kind of news ahead of the game's 30th anniversary next year. And it seems their wish may have finally been granted.

Recently, the Twitter account for Noise Factory, a company formed by several staff members who had worked on Power Instinct over at Atlus, announced that the Power Instinct developer Keiko Tanaka was building a new studio called NoiseCor. This news comes five years after Noise Factory's closure back in 2017, and only months after news broke about supposed issues with re-releasing Power Instinct for modern machines.

According to its mission statement, NoiseCor will focus on game software planning, development, and sales; music production, CD, and download music sales, and most interestingly, the development and sale of original goods. This makes us wonder whether a Power Instinct revival may finally be possible.

Earlier this year, our friends over at Nintendo Life reported on a tweet, from the Noise Factory account, that mentioned how the rights holders' fears over political correctness and the game's outdated stereotypes were responsible for scuppering a re-release. The Japanese site Automaton had speculated that this was specifically in relation to the Native American character, which Nintendo Life deemed a fair estimation at the time, considering the recent rebranding of MLB’s Cleveland Indians and the NFL’s Washington Redskins.

As it stands, the new studio's blog seems to be teasing original games, and asks fans to be patient for titles requiring external permission. This means Power Instinct fans may have some more waiting to do.

Power Instinct was released in arcades back in 1993, with a SNES version following the same year. A sequel followed that, only a year later, and was ported to the PlayStation. From there, the third game Gogetsuji Gaiden: Saikyou Densetsu was released in arcades in 1995, and was followed by the fourth in 1997, Groove on Fight: Gōketsuji Ichizoku 3 for Sega Saturn. The last two games in the series, 2003's Shin Gouketsuji Ichizoku: Toukon -Matrimelee- and 2009's Gōketsuji Ichizoku: Senzo Kuyō, were developed by Noise Factory.
