About The Game
Wintermoor Tactics Club is a story about surviving high school, with gameplay inspired by tactics RPGs and visual novels. It was hard enough for Alicia at the famed Wintermoor Academy before it erupted into a snowball war! Now her club's only hope is to transform from nerdy nobodies into fantasy heroes. Unravel a reality-bending mystery. Test your strategic mettle against an avalanche of colorful characters. And don't forget to make friends! ● Unlock your Potential: Discover the power of 7 playable characters and dozens of unlockable upgrades across more than 40 battles. ● Explore the School: Get to know Wintermoor in visual novel-inspired gameplay. Break down the walls between high school cliques such as the Psychic Detectives and Young Monarchists. ● Make New Friends: Write tabletop campaigns to help students overcome their personal problems, and discover their fantasy selves as your club grows.

I loved the premise of this game and the comments from the writers that they were looking to create a "cozy" atmosphere with the school setting (snowball fights and school setting must be a reference to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the GBA). It's a mixture of walking around 6 areas of the school essentially performing fetch quests and then turn based SRPG battles.
The music is good, the art style engaging and the setting enjoyable. The battles are a bit too easy so far but I am in the early game so they're probably not representative of what's to come.
Its fun so far, a couple of hours in, but unfortunately the load times are increasing to the point of unplayability.
Walk from a room to the corridor - 10 sec
Walk from the corridor to the map screen - 25 - 30 sec
Map screen to next location - 10 sec
Get/do what you need, which is usually quite brief, and then rinse and repeat. It's putting me off playing now as I seem to spend more time staring at a blank screen than playing the game. They seem to be lengthening as well as I get further in as it was much shorter earlier on.
If it could be optimised better then it would be a fun game for tactics fans but for now I would hold off.
@Pisiform Thanks for this. I saw a review online that said the performance on Switch wasn't the best but watched some footage on YouTube of the first 30 mins and it looked fine to me. A real shame it gets worse as it goes on, as I'm a big fan of the vibe here... Sadly with small games like these, it can be difficult to find out about patches etc, but I will keep my eyes peeled.
